Boxing
Boxing is a big cause for brain damage. All boxers know what they are getting themselves into when they state to box. The amount of hits boxers take to the head causes them to have less and less brain cells because brain cells can not repair themselves. The American Medical Association and British Medical Association have both said that because of professional boxers having long time brain damage they think it should be ban Boxer Muhammad Ali now lives with Parkinson Syndrome.

Softball vs. Baseball

Softball, created in 1887, is a popular sport for teenage girls.  Many girls take this sport seriously and work hard.  People often think that softball and baseball are the same sport but they have some differences.  For example, there are no screws allowed in your cleats.  For baseball those are allowed.  One of the most obvious differences between baseball and softball is that in softball the ball is bigger.  The circumference of the ball is 11-12 inches whereas the baseball is about 9 inches.  When the game was invented, it was played with a bigger ball so they just invented it like that.  Also, men invented the game and played the sport first!  Softball was created as a indoor sport but is played outside today.  Softball is only played up to 7 innings where baseball has 9.  However the bat in softball is much smaller than the baseball bat.  The softball pitch is much different than the baseball pitch.  The baseball pitch is thrown over hand and the softball pitch is thrown under hand.  Many girls get scholarships for softball and even play in college.  Softball is a great sport to play! Bowling is a super fun sport.  Not only does it get you active but it is a fun activity to do when you are bored with your friends.  bowling involves a bowling ball and 10 pins.  The best bowl you can roll is a strike, which is when you knock down all the pins in one roll.  The next best roll is a spare, which is when you knock down all the pins in two rolls.  Bowling is becoming more widely known.  Some schools have started a bowling team, and have been pretty successful.  If you are really into bowling then you can even customize your own ball and shoes.  Fun fact, the wonderful sport of bowling was created by English, Dutch, and German settlers.  So next time you are bored, grab some friends and go bowling.  Blog ya later!!

Brother Rice takes on the Big Bad BlackHawks

It's finally here.  The first round of playoffs begins tonight at 7 pm at North Farmington.  Think the Black Hawks are nervous? Definitely not.  The Warriors are no match for the talented and skilled Black Hawks.  Last time these teams met, Bloomfield had an easy win beating them by 30 points.  Armand Cartwright, senior at Bloomfield, has a big game tonight.  From playing varsity since freshman year, a lot of pressure is on him to leave everything he has on the court tonight and for the rest of the playoff games.  Cameron Dalton however, is a junior at Bloomfield who will definitely be returning next year to carry the team.  He is ready to take on the Warriors and give it to them just like last time.  With Black Hawks 19-2 record, Rice should be nervous.  Bloomfield is ranked 7th in Michigan and is ready to play tonight! Come and support your team! Blog ya later!

Tennis
Tennis is a sport played with a racket and a ball. It is played on a court with a net dividing the sides. The object of the game is to hit the ball on the other side of the net, making it so the opponent can't return it. Tennis is played at all ages and is an Olympic sport. Tennis originated in England in the late 19th century as "lawn tennis". There are four main shots they use in tennis. One is a grip, a grip is a way of holding a racket. The second one is a serve, a sever is a shot to start a point. The third shot is the forehead, the forehead is stroke that begins on the right side of the body and continues across the body. The last shot is the backhand, the backhand is a shot the starts on the left side of your body and continues across the body.

Last week our school lost one of the greatest coaches to ever walk the halls of Bloomfield Hills high school. On March 25, 2014 the beloved Mike Rado lost his fight to brain cancer. For those of you who have not had the pleasure of knowing Rado he was the swim coach at Lahser since the program even started and he was the girls assistant coach for one year of Bloomfield Hills high school. Rado also coached a summer club for many years too. Rado swam all his life and was amazing, his times were so fast that we could hardly believe that anyone could swim like that. Although Rado is gone his impact will never go away. I only had one year with Rado as my coach, but it was the best swim season of my life and I could not have wished for more. I will miss  Rado's  jokes, and the smell of his coffee when he walked in the room. You will be missed Mike Rado.

Lastly you need are some friends to play with and good spirit!

cricket

                                            CRICKET
Cricket originated in the 1300s.  This game involves a bat and a ball, somewhat similar to baseball in that sense.  The bat is usually made of white willow wood and the ball is made up of hard leather.  The game is played on a grassy field.  The goal of this game is to score more runs than your opponent (also similar to baseball).  There is always 11 players on the field.  One team is batting and the other is fielding.  Cricket is a very popular sport in the countries of India, England, and Australia.  Cricket is also a game that always has a winner.  There has only been two times in history where the game has ended in a tie.  Blog ya later!!

Soccer

What sport is the most popular sport in the world, played worldwide, and practiced by 13 million Americans? Soccer.  Soccer is played on every continent in the world and is played in more than 178 countries.  Soccer is one of the many sports that requires a high level of fitness.  Speed, agility, strength and stamina are all good cardiovascular fitness traits to have to be an elite player.  However, to be a good soccer player, it takes hard work and dedication, two things that anyone can develop.  Drills like "Cones" , are great drills to practice to make you a better soccer player. You simply are dribbling the ball in between the cones to improve your ball handling skills and to keep the ball under control.  Even this simple drill is practiced still by colleges and high school.  The simple things come in handy in games.  A proper warm up at the beginning of every practice will definitely benefit you for the rest of your practice.  Remember that practice makes perfect and you can never practice enough.  Blog ya Later!

Table Tennis

The game is played  on a table divided with a net and the ball can only hit once on each side of the table as you hit it back and fourth. In 1926 the International Table Tennis Federation was founded. The game was invented when middle class Victorians decided to turn their dining room table into miniature versions of a table tennis table one night after dinner. When the game was first invented it had a series of different names, "whif whaf", "gossamer" and "flim flam".

Bump, Set, Spike!

Originally called "mintonette" in 1895, Volleyball was all started by William G. Morgan, a physical education director.  His plan: combine sports like basketball, handball, and baseball into a less physical game.  The game was supposed to be for businessmen and older gentlemen.  He blended aspects of tennis like the net and made improvements.  He raised the net 6 feet above the ground.  After watching his players. "volley" back in forth over the net he soon named the game volleyball.  The sport quickly spread around North America and soon traveled around the world.  Who would think that a gym teacher, in his small town Holyoke,  Massachusetts, could create such a popular sport played by many! Lacrosse then and now

Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing sports in America today. In this day and age there are more youth programs, high school programs, college programs, and professional programs, than there ever has been. What a lot of people don't know is that lacrosse is the oldest sport in America and it was created by the native Americans. Lacrosse is truly the American sport because it was created here by native Americans on America soil. Of course the sport was played a little differently back then their sticks were different like in the picture above you can see that those sticks are very old and lacrosse players use much more strong and advanced sticks today. Also lacrosse used to be just men, but it has expanded to boys and girls of all ages so everyone can enjoy the fun. Another difference between Lacrosse played by the native Americans and present day is that The Native Americans used to play to settle disputes and their games could go on for days. Also the native Americans would use violent tricks to unsure the win like rocks. Today lacrosse is no more than an hour and a half per game and is as safe as possible with protective gear. Its an exciting day for all the boys swimmers in the division 1 red division league today as they take on the final day of the league meet. For many of the boys on the team this is the final meet of their season, the meet they have devoted their time in and have been training for since November. For others this is their last meet before States, almost like a practice of being under pressure and competing against tougher and more competition. Everyone on the team that has not gotten their state cut yet will be striving to get it tonight .at league meet, they are under an enormous amount of pressure because they know this is their last chance for the season. There has been a lot of preparation in the count down to league meet such as taper, dying of hair, and shaving of hair. The swimmers also bleach there hair a couple weeks leading up to the big meet this has been a tradition that has gone on for many, many, years. Finally a few hours before league meet they shave off there dyed hair so there is less drag in the pool. Good luck to the boys Blackhawk swimmers today as they break records and get state cuts! Ballin back to the History of Basketball

He shoots...He scores!  The crowd goes wild as he soars down the court.  Basketball is one of the top ten most popular sports in the world.  Although invented many years ago, it still is practiced by many people today.  It all started on a December night in 1891 when James Naismith, a gym teacher, needed a sport for his football players to play to keep in shape.  Football season was coming an end and the players had nothing to do.  With two peach baskets, he decided to attach them to a balcony at the opposites ends of the gym.  The boys got a ball to pass around and one player shot the ball into the basket for 3 points.  Soon the game of basketball spread around the world.  James was known as "The Father of Basketball."

The picture above shows James Naismith and the peach buckets he used to invent basketball.

Unfortunately James died in 1939 but his legend remained present throughout the world.  He created an incredible and exciting sport that more than 250 million people play worldwide.  Basketball is a sport that will always bring out a player's best game.
